New Format, New Schedule

Hello all and Happy New Year!

We’ve had a nice winter break here at Rewrite It Club, but we’re back and working hard to embrace the new year. Are you ready to rewrite?

2020 is a year of renewal. New year, new decade, and a fresh start to tackle those revisions like a pro. That’s where we come in.

This year Rewrite It Club is changing its format. While we love the chance to chat each week with all our favorite writers, we’ve come strategized a new system to help writers build the bones of their stories to a pitch-ready novel. i.e. A way to help you target those revisions on a developmental level. Whether you’re working with a first draft, or your story is further along in the process, we welcome all to come hang out and give it a try.

Once a month we’ll launch a blog post with tools and resources to use as a guide—for our chat and for your stories. On the following Monday, we’ll host a one hour twitter chat on #RewriteItClub to talk about methods, resources, and how to hone some focus on your revisions.

But wait, there’s more!

Because this is an untested method, some of us decided to try this on our own stories too. Several Rewrite It Club team members will be following along with their revisions, tackling the topic each month to help bring their stories into focus.

Here’s a quick peek into the 2020 Rewrite It Club schedule:

We will also have the monthly blog days and chat times in the right-hand column. If you’re ready to hammer out that gorgeous story and dig deep into the structure, immersion and why of your story, here are some great tools to help get you started.

How do you (re)write?
Microsoft Word – probably the most used program in the world.
Scrivener – a fantastic way to split your screen into a binder and writing space, set word count targets, outline, and storyboard. If you’ve never used it before, there’s a small learning curve, but it’s an incredible way to break down those story elements and work with more focus. Price is a one-time fee.
Google Docs – if you have a gmail account, google docs is a free way to use Microsoft office and store all your progress on a cloud.
Ulysses – this is an apple-only product and looks like the pricing is monthly/yearly.

If there are other tools here not mentioned, feel free to drop a link in the comments so we can add it to our tools list.

Can’t wait to see everyone again Monday January 20th at 5:00pm EST.
